2.1 Rhetorical Concepts
Rough concepts
- we need to specify what type of area/audience we are going to target- style we are going to use ( illustrative/photographic/retro/cookbook/manual etc.)
- thinking of making an event poster that subtle connects to preparedness.
- beginning to explore the use of rhetoric. Use visual matrix to generate random crossing of elements from word lists to generate rhetorical ideas.
word>image>rhetorical approach>style

The ideas are good, they still need work in refining and juxtaposing the topics. Need to check spelling and make it clear what the concept/strategies are. Combining geometric and organic shapes, as well as manipulating something to look like another. Continue with using language to influence the imagery and text relationship. How can things be combined, manipulated and what are the meanings.
We have agreed to continue working individually, generating concepts/ideas/posters, then come together later and discuss what is working and what isn't, and how we can use different aspects from each others to make the best outcome. These are still rough concepts and need to be made quickly and not labour intensive, still experimenting.
Class sharing/critique
As a class we shared our posters and discussed which posters were eye-catching from afar and why (high contrast, colour, etc). We also looked at what ideas are working so far, and some of the strategies listed earlier (text eg. play on words, imagery eg. manipulating something to look like another, etc).
