6.1 Final Adjustments
Website Wireframes
Desktop
Desktop
We added a 'upload photo' page that connects to the image gallery, and a 'resources' page that allows the viewer to see the items bigger and download them. In the menu, since the 'about' and 'sign up' is on the same scroll page I couldn't make it jump down to that section in Invision. Also added the Neighbours Day dates in the 'about' section.
Because the laptop and Invision size and are Retina, it looks a bit low quality. However, after asking one of the tutors it is not a big deal.
Mobile
When viewing the prototype on my phone the body text was a bit too small and could potentially be hard to read for people. By making the text bigger, there needs to be a bit more space so that it is not all cramped together and the viewer gets disinterested. The social media logos need to be further apart because the area the finger needs to tap could be difficult distinguishing between them. The layout and content are exactly the same as the desktop but just moved into a one column grid.
Flyer
Box packaging mock-up with contents
Today we mocked up the box and flyer. We have decided to use an existing box as a base for our design, but have modified it to fit the torch, batteries, and flyer. The initial idea with this box (as pictured top left) was to have our flyer folded and placed in the space, however, it requires being folded up very small, and this had negative effects for usability and design reasons (top right). We have decided to have it sitting behind the torch instead, at its full length, and have made it double sided which looks and feels a lot better (below folded top right design).
There are still lots of micro details that need fixing, such as the overall flyer sizing, the sizing of text and logos, and swapping out/adding information.
Final Design:
Poster
Our poster initially set out to promote Neighbours Day in the sense that you can plan your own, set your own dates, times, and locations. However, it seems that having a set day/days/weekend for Neighbours Day makes it easier for people to plan for it, by giving them a date to work towards. We will include this on our poster, and add more about this on our website too.
Our rhetoric is food metaphors. The light blue background feels the most successful in having what we wanted, it also compliments/matches the website. The bold yellow title is our main icon/logo that will be recognised by people. We added a thin grey shadow to the plate so that it can stand out and not blend into the background. The sub-headings "The key ingredient for handling any disaster" gives an answer to the what the image means. It also relates to the food element as well and referencing the emergency. We found out what the dates were for Neighbours Day on the Neighbours Day Aotearoa website and made it correspond to 2018. Having the logos in black makes them easier to read and be cohesive with the poster. Finally, we decided to have the broken pieces at a curve and higher up as to look like a thought bubble.
